MultiPark is a translational programme that ranges from experimental pre-clinical research to studies on the life situation of patients with neurodegenerative disorders. Our programme not only aims at improving the overall function of patients, but also their acitivity and participation. This initiative relies on solid interactions between Lund University and Skåne University Hospital with support from the University of Gothenburg.
Building on the long tradition of cutting-edge research on neurodegenerative diseases of aging at LU, our vision is to create an innovative environment for improved and novel treatments, disease modifications and eventually cures for neurodegenerative diseases, in order to improve the quality of life for people living and ageing with these disorders.
Our researchers want to find new treatments and achieve results that can be used in society. Several drugs are currently available for the treatment of these diseases, but their effects often diminish with time and most importantly current therapies have not been shown to slow or halt the progression of disease. Hence, new treatments are needed to slow, or stop, the course of these diseases.
The MultiPark research environment at Lund University has the capacity and the ideas to tackle neurodegenerative disorders through different strategies – simultaneously. Our broad research profile allows us to diagnose these disorders early on, helps us to understand disease progression on a cellular level, how brain function is altered and finally how they affect a patient's everyday life.
