The Lund Medical Faculty Monthly – formerly Lund Virtual Medical Journal – was launched in 2002.
In 2001 the Faculty of Medicine at Lund University had a major concern regarding the visibility of published research results by the authors of the Faculty of Medicine. A project group consisting of librarians, IT-technicians and researchers was established. The project group was assigned to find a solution to present an overview on the web for a presentation of the faculty’s researchers' published articles. The project was accomplished in cooperation with a team working on setting up an institutional repository at the Lund University Libraries Head Office.
Journal concept-to highlight important articles
The concept of a journal’s regularity and the need to highlight important research articles on a monthly basis was designed while retrieving the information from the institutional repository, Lund University Publications. To help ensure success of the new journal, the Dean appointed an editorial group to select the “Article of the Month”.
The editorial group consists of a managing editor and editors for basic science, clinical science and health sciences. The work of the editorial group, publishing an editorial comment to the chosen article, adds value to the faculty produced research publications
