Target group
The course is intended for PhD students at the Faculty of Medicine working on non-randomized studies. The course is also open for post-doctoral and senior researchers with a course fee of 5000 SEK.

Prerequisites
Applied Statistics I & Applied Statistics II (or equivalent knowledge obtained elsewhere). Access to and skills in one of statistical software packages SPSS, STATA or R is also required.

Course content
This course covers four main quasi-experimental designs used for impact evaluation in epidemiology and public health. Following subjects will be covered during the course:

  • Causal Inference and counterfactuals
  • Internal and external validity and their threats
  • Difference-in-difference technique
  • Interrupted time series analysis
  • Regression discontinuity design
  • Synthetic control method

Funding
This course receives financial support from EpiHealth (Epidemiology for Health) and LUPOP (Lund University Population Research Platform).
