Computer regulations & information security at Lund University

As a user of the university network LUNET you commit to the university computer regulations. The regulations are the same for both employees and students.
The university generates and handles large amounts of information. The information must be managed correctly to ensure both access to information and regulatory compliance.

Backup on faculty server

Automatic backup on all servers, including home directories etc, is done every night.

You are responsible for data stored only locally on your computer. We recommend that you use the home directories as the main place to store files.

Antivirus software

Since autumn 2019 our previous antivirus software is longer in use.

This will not effect computers included in PC.LU.SE or LUMac. In these platforms the antivirus protection is handled by built-in solutions in the operating system.

For computers that are not included in these platforms it is recommended that you download fully functional antivirus software.

Please note! It is important to uninstall Sophos before installing a new antivirus software.

Please follow instructions below:

For PC we recommend Microsoft Security Essentials for all operating systems except Windows 8 and Windows 10, where Windows Defender is built in.

  1.  Download and run this file:
Sophos Uninstaller (PC) (octet-stream 468,3 kB)
  2. Restart your computer
  3. Install Microsoft Security Essentials

For Mac you do not need any antivirus software. We recommend that you upgrade to the latest operating system (MacOS Mojave), or the latest that is possible on your computer.

Please note! Mendeley Desktop (free software for reference management) cannot run on MacOS Mojave.

  1. Download and run this file:Sophos Uninstaller (Mac) (zip 3,4 MB)
  2. Restart your computer
  3. Update to the latest operating system
