Cancer is one of the most common diseases and the cancer incidence in Sweden has increased since national cancer registration started in 1958. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer form in males, whereas breast cancer is the most common form in females in Sweden.
Cancer research is a strong and prioritized strategic research area at Lund University. University of Gothenburg is a close collaborator as partner in the strategic research area BioCARE. Cancer research is also pursued in other important research initiatives, both at international and national level, as well as in industrial and health care constellations.
