The Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation

The KAW is one of the largest financiers of research in Sweden and in 2010 the foundation awarded grants of SEK 959 million. The majority of the grants have been given to Swedish universities and academies and 20-30 percent of the Foundation's grants relate to high-value research equipment for use within the technical, natural sciences and biomedical fields.

 

Swedish Research Council 

The Swedish Research Council is the largest provider of public funds for Swedish basic research at Swedish higher education institutions and research institutes. The projects it supports are mainly initiated by the researchers themselves. The support is distributed by the Scientific Councils and the Committees for Educational Science and Research Infrastructures to research that is of the highest scientific quality and best promotes the renewal of research.

The Swedish Cancer Society (Cancerfonden)

The Swedish Cancer Society is an independent non-profit organisation with the vision of finding cures for cancer. The main aim is raise and distribute money for cancer research. In 2010 the Research Commission awarded 385 million Swedish kronor to research projects, care development projects in cancer research positions, grants and other areas. The organization is the single largest financer of cancer research in Sweden and is financing around 400 research projects each year.

The purpose of the foundation is to promote scientific medical research, mainly dealing with cancer, renal disease and orthopaedics. The grants have over the years been awarded to major projects that are considered to be essential to the future development of the areas for which the foundation was established. Priority is given to grants for the purchase of instruments, aids and equipment. During 2010 the foundation awarded grants for medical equipment of SEK 27.7 million, divided between 16 applicants.

The foundation’s sole aim is to support the research and the fight against cancer, foremost by promoting the cancer research at the Oncology department at Skåne’s University Hospital, Lund.

 

The Crafoord Foundation

In 1980 Holger Crafoord donated SEK 3 million to a foundation whose main purposes are to promote Swedish scientific training and research, without a view to making a profit for a given individual person or organization.  In 2010, the Crafoord Foundation received about 500 applications and granted SEK 55 million (SEK 77 million in 2009) for scientific research.

 

Region Skåne

Region Skåne (Skåne Regional Council) is the self-governing authority of Skåne. Region Skåne is responsible for providing health and medical services to the inhabitants living in Skåne.
