Tissues in Motion organizes every year a one day event at Skåne University Hospital, Lund, Sweden.
Disorders of connective tissues encompass a broad spectrum of conditions, which have great impact on patients causing severe long-term pain and physical disability. These conditions affect large portions of the world population and result in large costs to the society. Connective tissue disorders that share many basic features include joint diseases, like osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis and arteriosclerosis, but also inflammatory skin diseases and respiratory disorders, like asthma and COPD. These diseases may affect humans at any age and are often chronic and lifelong.
Thus, the research program entitled ”Tissues in motion (TIM). Remodelling and inflammation – a joint action” focuses on joint disease in a broad sense and has connections to various musculoskeletal diseases as well as to other disease areas with research focuses applicable to the general theme of pathological tissue remodelling.
To take into account the multitude of pathogenic factors resulting in tissue destruction, the program incorporates a spectrum of scientists with focus on complementary strategic and technological platforms. It also encompasses the new opportunities offered by availability of the sequence of the human genome, permitting gene linkage studies in disease, and offered by developments in technology including microarray, proteomics and functional studies.
TIM also offers courses such as "How to write a research application". Contact person for this is Anders Malmström.
