CASE Graduate School is partly a separate research school carried out at Lund University and partly a joint collaboration with the Graduate School at the Aging Research Center (ARC ) in Stockholm. The common long-term goal is aimed at establishing a National Graduate School for Ageing Research. CASE profile concerns essentially environmental gerontology, community-based care and rehabilitation and traffic planning. ARC’s educational profile focuses on biological and socio-demografic aspects of ageing.
The distinctive feature of the research at CASE is its specific emphasis on person-environment interaction studied in an interdisciplinary research mileu through collaboration between the Faculties of Medicine, Engineering and Social Sciences at Lund University.
In accordance with the mission of CASE, the mission of the Graduate School is to consolidate and further develop an excellent research context fostering future scientists. The short term goals are to provide training of future ageing researchers; to provide a platform for interdisciplinary collaborative research on ageing and to develop and provide graduate courses supplying the generation of knowledge, theories and methods connected with the research at CASE.
CASE Graduate School is funded by the Swedish Council for Working Life and Social Research. To a certain extent the research school is organised as an autonomous unit with its own budget, however still under the responsibility of CASE steering committee.
The short-term activities planned are seminars, journal clubs, workshops and regular courses as well as intensive and specialised short courses. Among the long-term goals integration of courses; an ageing research survey and a work towards a common PhD programme for ageing research are planned.
