NeuroLund

The overriding scientific goal of the NeuroLund program is to explore mechanisms of neurodegeneration, plasticity and maladaptive plasticity in animal and cell models of the following research areas:

  • Parkinson's disease
  • Huntington's disease
  • Alzheimer's disease
  • Stroke/brain trauma
  • Epilepsy
  • Major depression and bipolar disorder

This knowledge will be used to devise novel therapeutic strategies based on:

  • Neuroprotection
  • Cell replacement
  • Gene therapy
  • Stimulation of endogenous regenerative mechanisms

Within these main research areas, the groups participating in NeuroLund are intensifying their interactions. All of them take advantage of the consolidated expertise in the development, characterization and validation of rodent models of human disease. Research in Lund in these areas is already very strong at an international level and in particular it has been successful concerning disease modeling and regarding translational research with novel therapeutic strategies.
