The groups in NeuroFortis have access to several molecular, cellular, biochemical and behavioural techniques that are at the research forefront. The program makes special efforts to promote certain emerging technologies and currently supports the following:
NeuroFortis has initiated the setting up of an MRI facility for small animals that will be used in experimental imaging of neurodegenerative disorders. In collaboration with a group in France, we are also running a PET imaging program in rodents.
NeuroFortis supports the build up of a state-of-the-art cell imaging facility including live-cell imaging and multiphoton confocal microscopic techniques. We also provide courses to train scientists in cell imaging within the program.
NeuroFortis provides technical assistance and a well equipped laboratory for the proliferation and differentiation of human embryonic stem cells. Ultimately, the program will develop stem cell-derived dopamine neurons for transplantation in Parkinson“s disease.
