1. What is your research about?

My research is focussed on elucidating the role of platelets during the immune response to bacterial infection. On-going studies from my lab have identified an important role for platelets during the patho-physiological response to significant bacterial pathogens.

2. What are your dreams for the future?

Platelets have a well appreciated role during blood coagulation, however they tend to be forgotten in the context of the immune response. I would like to improve our knowledge of platelet responses that occur during infection. I dream of the day that all immunology textbooks contain a chapter on the role of platelets in the immune response.

3. What does it mean to you to have recieved the assignement as research assistant?

Receiving a position as research assistant from VR is extremely important for me. It is an indication that the research I have performed and will perform is deemed to be of good quality by my peers. The position gives me financial and job security to plan my research over an extended period of time and to recruit new members to my team.
