On 8th of February, 16:00 in Segerfalk auditorium Malin Parmar will have the next BMC-PI Talk.

Title: Making functional neurons in a dish. 

This talk is a logical continuation of the first PI talks held by Anders Björklund and Olle Lindvall on the history of Parkinson's disease research in Lund.

Malin has developed a new technique to transdifferentiate human fibroblasts (e.g. from patients skin) to dopaminergic neurons directly (induced neurons, iN). This new technique has several advantages compared to iPS cells, which will be discussed in the presentation. This is a novel discovery and the paper was published in PNAS 2011: Direct conversion of human fibroblasts to dopaminergic neurons.
