Course 1: October 24--28 (Swedish course) 
Course 2: November  14--18 (Swedish course) 
Course 3: November 28--December 2 (Swedish course) 
Course 4: December 12--16 (English course)
All days between 9.00 and 16.00.

Lenght of course 
The course equals one full week (approx. 40 hours). The course requires attendance and active participation in all parts, as well as completing an assigned task during the course.

Aim 
The aim of the course is to give the participants the opportunity to practice oral presentations and develop awareness of communication processes and viewpoint of listeners. A second aim is to allow participants to practice giving and receiving constructive feedback.

Objectives 
After completing the course, the participants should be able to:

  • make a research presentation for other PhD students focusing on listeners' needs and viewpoints
  • identify various non-verbal communication patterns and describe their impact on listener and speaker.
  • provide constructive feedback to other participants after an oral presentation
  • reflect, in writing and with references to literature, on how an oral presentation can be structured and performed

Contents 
The course incorporates ways of structuring and visualizing contents, non-verbal communication and stress-coping strategies. Research presentations for colleagues are the main focus but additional target groups will be discussed. The contents of the course are related to adult learning theories and communication theory.

Learning activities 
The participants take active part in various exercises practising structure, voice and body language, stress-coping strategies and giving and receiving feedback. TEstablished practice is mapping and discussed in relation to theory.

Examination 
Active participation in exercises, 2 oral presentations and a written assignment.
