Bruce Beutler, Jules Hoffmann and Ralph Steinman are Nobel laureates 2011 in medicine/physiology.
Beutler and Hoffman are rewarded for their discoveries on the activation of congenital immunity. Steinman is rewarded for his discovery of dendritic cells and their part in acquired immunity.
Every year since 1901 the Nobel Prize has been awarded for achievements in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature, and for peace. Since 1968 the prize is also awarded in economy. The Nobel Prize is an international award administered by the Nobel Foundation in Stockholm, Sweden. In medicine, the Nobel Assembly at the Karolinska Institutet selects the Nobel laureate. Each prize consists of a medal, personal diploma, and a cash award.
