Today many medical research areas have a clear individual or even molecular perspective. However, equally important is to study the role of the social environment as determinant of individual health.
Public Health and Community Medicine has multilevel perspective, and our research team considers the interaction between the individual and the society in which individual lives in order to identify factors that influence health, disease risk and health care utilization.
Our research is place within the field of epidemiology, a science that describes and analyzes the distribution and determinants of health and disease in the population. Longitudinal (life course analysis) and multi-level analysis are the most important epidemiological methods that we use and develop.
Much of our work is focused on social epidemiology and it aims at understanding the mechanisms leading to the geographical and socio-economic differences in health care consumption based on the principle of equity and access to health care on equal terms.
We perform research in Pharmacoepidemiology and Health Care epidemiology aimed to investigate the use and effects of medication in the real world setting and the performance and quality of health care.
Our research deals with issues that have a direct relevance for health care and we present evidence that can provide a scientific basis for an equitable distribution of health care resources and preventive public health interventions.
