The Research in CASE

The CASE – Vision & Mission

"The Supportive Environment for Ageing" is the ultimate vision of CASE and will create societal change enhancing healthy ageing, in Sweden and the rest of Europe. The mission is threefold:

  • To produce research findings enhancing development of environments supportive for healthy ageing, taking benefit of active input from older people and user organisations, ultimately resulting in positive daily life changes recognised and acknowledged by older people, at individual, group and population levels.
  • To produce research findings of high societal relevance, resulting in practice implementation in societal planning as well as impact on policy and legislation.
  • To consolidate and further develop a creative, strong and excellent research context, well suited to support development and implementation of evidence-based, practical strategies for creating supportive environments in different societal arenas, nurtured by continuously developing in-depth knowledge on ageing processes.

The population at target is old/very old people and persons along the ageing process, using Baltes & Smith’s definition (1999). The environmental dimensions primarily at target are housing, neighbourhoods, and traffic & roads in the local community, i.e. the arenas where older people primarily perform their everyday activities. Utilising the potential lying in the combination of the strong competencies in CASE, we will increasingly focus on social and cultural dimensions as well. Thus, the hallmark of CASE research activities is the focus on person-environment relations influencing functional capacity, activity, participation, mobility, safety and health in the ageing person and population
