Into the molecular databases from PubMed, Web of Science or Google Scholar - collecting information from diverse sources.

Aim
To show how molecular information can be accessed from bibliographic databases and how this information can be collected.

Intended learning outcomes
After the workshop, participants will:

  • know how to access molecular information from two major bibliographic databases in medical sciences
  • be more aware of some of resources available from NCBI and EMBL-EBI
  • have a strategy to collect quality molecular information from established databases

Content
Participants will be given the opportunity to explore the resources below:

  • From PubMed via into Gene Sensor into Entrez Gene and other NCBI databases. All Databases, MapViewer, Google and The Gene Wiki
  • From Web of Sciences or Google Scholar via Reflect into EMBL-EBI databases. UniprotKB, iHOP, and Stitch2
  • BioGPS

Teaching design
Demonstrations and hands-on computer-based learning in workshop form based on participant's gene/protein of interest.
Participants will be asked to open a Delicious account before the start of the workshop.
